Two Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Professor Alpha Yap to study the mechanisms of epithelial homeostasis. The broad aim is to elucidate how epithelia respond to sporadic cell injury: identifying the mechanisms that allow healthy cells to identify and eliminate injured cells; and characterizing the pathological consequences when these homeostatic mechanisms fail. The team uses a multi-disciplinary approach, working with national and international collaborators, to combine experimental cell biology, quantitative approaches to cell dynamics, biophysical assays and animal models of inflammation.
These are outstanding opportunities for ambitious scientists to develop interdisciplinary research expertise and grow their scientific profile.
Key responsibilities will include:
Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.
This is a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ's Criteria for Academic Performance.
