Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Pandemic Sciences

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Pandemic Sciences to join our vibrant research environment at Pandemic Sciences Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine.

As the Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you will be performing independent research on the topic of AI/ML and Infectious Disease Epidemiology, publishing this work in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and representing the group at external scientific and public health policy meetings. You will be tasked with preparing working theories and analysing qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining theories as appropriate. You will be responsible for developing ideas for generating research income and presenting detailed research proposals to senior researchers as well as contributing ideas for new research projects. You will be teaching or undertaking ad-hoc paid teaching (this may include lecturing, demonstrating, small group teaching, tutoring of undergraduates and graduate students, and supervision of projects). You will also be responsible for representing the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a computational subject (e.g., statistical epidemiology, computational statistics) along with sufficient specialist knowledge in genomic and epidemiological modelling. You will have previous experience in leading and contributing to publications/presentations and be able to collaborate with international colleagues during heath crises and emergencies. You will also have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.
