We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Human-AI interaction to join a research group focussed on studying learning and decision-making in humans and machine learning systems led by Prof Chris Summerfield.

The post-holder will have responsibility for carrying out rigorous and impactful research into human-AI interaction and alignment, with a particular focus on helping build machine learning models that can help humans learn faster and more effectively, and/or make better decisions. Take the lead in designing research into human-AI interaction that is of an international standard and to build and/or train machine learning models that can be used to support and accelerate human learning, potentially including large language models (LLMs). Providing guidance to less experienced members of the team and participate in the dissemination of research outputs by writing publications, giving talks at workshops and conferences, and engaging in outreach activities involving the wider public.

This is a fixed term post for two years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, physics, or computational neuroscience / cognitive science with a demonstrable track record in studying the interactions between humans and machine learning models, in the context of learning, decision-making, or a related area. You will have a proven track record of publishing work as lead author with a focus on human-AI interaction, strong quantitative and programming skills along with excellent communication skills and a collaborative outlook, including a willingness to help other lab members on ongoing projects, and help foster good communication within the lab.
