Your role

Student Academic Success (SAS) provides learning support services that promote academic achievement across RMIT Vietnam programs. The Data and Research Analyst will support the Senior Research and Data analyst in research projects undertaken by the Student Academic Success team in support of student achievement, retention and improving the student academic experience. This role will focus on the collection, storage, and analysis of various data sets and optimising these processes. This role will also contribute to university wide research initiatives and projects that aim to measure and improve student success.

Reports to: Manager, Academic Advising and Analytics

Indirectly reports to: Senior Manager, Student Success

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct statistical analyses (e.g. Anova, Linear and Logistic regressions, least-square means, etc.) on quantitative and qualitative student data.

  • Apply one or more statistical software such as R, SPSS, Python, NVivo and Excel (VBA, Macros, Power Queries) to large data sets.

  • Contribute to reports with a high level of accuracy, and within agreed timelines to assist SAS in identifying correlations and patterns within a variety of statistical indicators of academic success or failure.

  • Contribute to the production of high-quality data visualisations and Power BI Dashboards.

  • Assist the Senior Research and Data Analyst and other relevant stakeholders in the formal evaluation of SAS project outcomes by conducting or facilitating data collection, analysis and reporting.

  • Contribute to institution-wide research projects regarding student success.

  • Contribute to SAS data collection and cleaning processes and data storage and reporting systems.

  • Strictly protect and maintain the confidentiality of data and reports; develop and follow appropriate procedures for secure storage of all data.

  • Other relevant duties as negotiated with the Line Manager

  • Key Selection Criteria

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree, preferably in statistics, data science or math.

  • One to two years' experience working in research and data analytics.

  • Experience in working with databases, data collection, data cleaning and statistical analysis.

  • Experience producing a variety of reports based on quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Demonstrated experience using database tools, spreadsheets, and word processing software.

  • Demonstrated experience using scripting language (e.g., Visual Basic for Applications, DAX, etc.).

  • Experience in using SPSS, R, NVivo or other statistical analysis tools and Excel for data analysis.

  • Strong attention to detail; ability to maintain accuracy in analysis and reporting while working with large data sets.

  • Evidence of ability to prepare data for analysis and to recognise patterns within data sets.

  • English written and oral communication skills.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including coordination and multicultural communication.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and secrecy when working with sensitive information.
