Research Assistant / Associate in Probabilistic Machine Learning (Fixed

Term)

We are seeking a Research Assistant/Research Associate to join an exciting team at the University of Cambridge working with the ProbAI Hub, a world- leading research programme in probabilistic AI. This £8.5M programme is funded by EPSRC and brings together research groups from the Universities of Lancaster, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Manchester and Warwick. Interaction between the research groups at the six universities is strongly encouraged and resourced. The position will also initially contribute to the Machine Learning for Tomorrow research programme which is synergistic to the Hub and involves Microsoft Research Cambridge.

The Research Assistant/Associate will join the Machine Learning Group at the Department of Engineering, working with Prof. Richard E. Turner. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise and interest in any of the following areas: machine learning for partial differential equations; stochastic processes, functional representations, and deep learning; diffusion and probability flow for spatio-temporal models. We will make methodological contributions that drive advancements in spatio-temporal prediction e.g. in the environmental sciences, weather forecasting, and climate modelling. For more information about the research group, see https: // rich-turner- group.github.io

You should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline. Experience working in AI, whilst desirable, is not absolutely required. This is a full-time position, but we will consider applicants requesting part-time or flexible working arrangements. We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Key responsibilities include: research into probabilistic AI; writing papers; and producing research software. Additional responsibilities include: developing research objectives; presentations and publications; assisting with management and reporting; participating and organising ProbAI Hub events; liaising and networking; planning and organising research resources and workshops.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £32,296 - £34,866 Research Associate: £36,924 - £45,163
