The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. We are located in central premises at Natrium, Medicinareberget , Gothenburg.

Our group study the molecular chaperone CCT, with particular focus on functions outside of classical folding. We use cultured mammalian cells as a model system, utilising a range of cell biology- and biochemistry-based techniques.

Duties
  • Culturing of mammalian cell lines
  • Preparation of plasmids
  • Subcellular fractionation
  • Protein:protein interaction studies
  • CD7 microscopy/confocal microscopy/live cell imaging
  • Labelling of cells during mitosis, study of kinetochore assembly using antibodies
  • Image analysis/ macro writing for automatic segmentation of cells
  • Development of protocols for staining mammalian cells
  • Qualifications

    Requirements for the position:

  • Documented experience (eg via publications) of the following:
  • Working with the CCT molecular chaperone
  • Mammalian cell culture
  • CD7 microscopy/live cell imaging
  • Fiji/ImageJ processing
  • Molecular biology/protein biochemistry
  • Immunostaining
  • Merit for the position:

  • Experience in developing methodology in cell biology
  • Employment

    The employment is a time-limited for six months on fulltime (100%) placed at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Starting in February 2025.
