About the role

The Department of Education is looking to appoint a Research Assistant to contribute to a “feasibility trial of an adapted anti-bullying programme for children in special schools”.

This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to join a feasibility randomised controlled trial of anti-bullying programme KiVa-SEND. The project will trial the new anti-bullying programme with special education schools in Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties. It will include a mixed-method approach of one-to-one and small group data collection. The project is funded by the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund and is led by Dr Julia Badger and in collaboration with Professor Lucy Bowes (University of Oxford), Professor Richard Hastings (University of Birmingham) and Professor Christina Salmivalli (University of Turku, Finland).

Reporting to Dr Julia Badger, the post holder will have the responsibility of literature reviewing; liaising with recruited schools; sorting and organising pupil details and data; set-up equipment and materials for data collection; data collection (working one-to-one with pupils with special educational needs and disabilities and their teachers); process evaluation interviews and focus groups; analysis and supporting the preparation of written outputs.

The successful candidate will hold a first degree together with some relevant experience, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within the established research programme. They must be able to manage their own research and administrative activities within provided guidelines and have excellent communication skills. Experience working in / with schools and children is essential, and the candidate will be able to work flexible working hours to fit into school timetables.

The post if offered on a part-time basis at 22.5 hours per week (0. 6 FTE).
