College of Social Sciences

Research Associate - Centre for Public Policy x 2

The University of Glasgow is inviting applications for two Post-Doctoral Research Policy Associates to be at the heart of its Centre for Public Policy. The Centre for Public Policy is an investment of the College of Social Sciences to build collaboration between the research and policy community – locally, nationally and internationally - by sharing evidence, nurturing skills, creating space for fresh thinking and preparing the next generation of policy makers.

The Centre will support collaboration, creativity and policy engagement across the University, the public, third and private sectors, supporting researchers and policy makers to examine and address the policy challenges of today and the decades to come.

We welcome applications from outstanding early career researchers from across the social sciences, with a strong track record in research that applies to contemporary policy challenges. We are particularly interested in applicants with an acute understanding and interest in economics and public finance, poverty/inequality and/or health policy.

Postholders will make a substantial contribution to the development and activities of the Centre for Public Policy, building and enhancing the Centre's reputation for excellence in research, knowledge exchange and impact within the policy communities in Glasgow, Scotland, the UK and internationally.

You will be accountable for planning and delivering your own weekly workload and have responsibility for making day-to-day decisions autonomously and as a team, in consultation with and support from the Director and other senior members of the team. As well as having the opportunity (approximately one day per week (0.2FTE)) and support to develop your own post-doctoral research, Research Fellows will be expected to work, individually and collaboratively with colleagues, to develop and deliver new research and knowledge exchange projects that support the Centre's priorities.

At Glasgow, we aim to ensure that every researcher is supported to be at their best, as part of an engaging, fair, and collegial culture in which people help each other to succeed, and to make informed active choices about their development and their careers.

• Take a leading role in the planning and conduct of research individually or jointly in collaboration with the Centre's team, including independent and joint publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the Centre's reputation for excellent research, and gathering indicators of esteem.

• Individually and with colleagues within the Centre, design and deliver a range of knowledge exchange activities and outputs with and for the benefit of policy partners across the UK in the public, private and voluntary sector, to ensure a substantial track record of high-quality policy impact, founded on research expertise, impartiality and integrity.

• Take a leading role in the development and running of the University of Glasgow Policy Lab, designed to address policy challenges from multi-level government, multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral perspectives.

• Actively develop effective networks among academic and professional services colleagues and policy practitioners working within areas of expertise and in line with project priorities

• Support the development and delivery of the Centre's Executive Education programme and emerging Policy Evaluation Hub.

• Present your research and promote the work of the Centre for Public Policy at international and national conferences, internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops, to develop and enhance our research profile.

• Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.

• Contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan, World Changers Together: World Changing Glasgow 2025 , (https: // www. gla.ac.uk/explore/strategy/ )
