Job Reference: 1255879
Your new role We are seeking a passionate Research Fellow to expand our expertise in hydrogen-barrier coatings. Join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to the Trailblazer Project which aims to develop aluminium-based hydrogen barrier coatings for gas transmission and distribution pipelines.
In this role you will:
Please note you will require work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Only in limited situations will visa sponsorship situations be considered.
To learn more about this opportunity, please contact Professor Craig Buckley , School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) at [email protected].
About the project This research project aims to develop pipeline coating techniques using alumina to prevent hydrogen permeation in metallic and plastic materials used in gas transmission and distribution networks. The research will primarily focus on developing and applying laboratory methods based on gas permeability measurements and material characterisation techniques to evaluate the hydrogen barrier performance of new and existing coatings.
This two-year project is led by John Curtin Distinguished Professor Craig Buckley and will involve a team of five academics at Curtin University along with our industry partner, Cadoux Ltd. We are currently seeking one research fellow to join the team.
The project will be undertaken within the Hydrogen Storage Research Group (HSRG) https: // research.curtin.edu.au/research-areas/energy- transition/hydrogen-storage-research-group/ at Curtin University. The team will also have access to the John de Laeter Centre (JdLC) https: // jdlc.curtin.edu.au/, Curtin's infrastructure hub with $40 M worth of instrumentation, conveniently located in same building as the research team. The research team includes multidisciplinary experts across the fields of electrochemistry, physics, chemistry, and materials characterisation. The HSRG is led by John Curtin Distinguished Professor Craig Buckley and consists of eight research staff, over 10 Ph.D. students, and undergraduates working on diverse projects across the field of hydrogen storage and transportation. Our world-class hydrogen storage laboratory is equipped with advanced instruments for hydrogen permeation and sorption- desorption analysis as well as other labs with film deposition and characterisation capabilities.
About us The School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) is a uniquely rewarding workplace. The school combines Curtin's core capabilities across electrical engineering, computing, physics, and mathematics to better understand and advance our data-driven world. It has built substantial knowledge in machine learning, cyber security, statistics and optimisation, digital transformation, radio astronomy, the internet of things, signal processing, embedded systems, and renewable and power engineering. Be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking School where you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of hydrogen in pipelines, work with talented students, and contribute to a thriving academic community.
