  • About This Opportunity

    The Research Manager will collaborate closely with Chief Investigators and their teams to drive the development, implementation, and improvement of clinical research and trials within the Ageing and Geriatric Medicine research group. This position will take the lead clinical project management role for the MRFF-funded FITTEST Randomised Controlled Trial, ensuring its successful execution and outcomes.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide high-level project management across the research life cycle, including developing and implementing programs, managing grants/contracts, monitoring progress, and ensuring milestones are met within timelines and budgets. Contribute to ethics and governance submissions, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Supervise and manage research teams, providing leadership aligned with the UQ Leadership Framework. Offer guidance on research conduct, compliance, and administrative matters, including ethics and conflict of interest.

  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder engagement activities, leveraging knowledge of existing partnerships and research capabilities to identify new collaboration opportunities.

  • About You

  • A postgraduate qualification in a scientific, computing, medical, or related discipline with at least five (5) years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education/training. A PhD or progress towards a PhD is highly regarded.

  • Extensive experience concurrently managing clinical research projects and programs of varying sizes and complexity, including ensuring regulatory compliance and monitoring risks for academic, multi-centre, randomised controlled clinical trials. Extensive experience overseeing clinical research activities, including ethics/governance submissions, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Proven ability to lead and manage a small team, ensuring timely completion of research projects and related activities.

  • Experience providing secretariat support for research committees and stakeholder meetings, including agenda preparation, minute taking, and tracking action items.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to present complex content clearly.

  • Experience preparing grant applications and progress reports for funding bodies, or a willingness to acquire these skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, using initiative and sound judgement to prioritise workload.

  • Willingness to undertake work-related domestic or international travel up to 4 times per calendar year with reasonable notice.

  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check and mandatory immunisations.
