  • Job Description (PDF, 134.5kb)
  • This role augments our research support team across a wide remit across disciplines during an exciting period at Kingston University as we move into an institute model for our research and knowledge exchange, and grow our funded research, increasing collaboration, culture and quality. It would be ideal for someone starting their research support career, working with several different roles across the research support office to get good insight into each of those remits and to act as a lynchpin, connecting the different functions together. You will help our academics to win funding for their research and to ensure that the resulting projects run smoothly. You will have opportunity to interact with many of the systems supporting research, to work with our business engagement team and to liaise with the Finance team dedicated to this area. We share an office with wider research, research student and business engagement functions so you should complete the fixed term with good knowledge across many aspects of research and knowledge exchange support.

    The Person

You will be inquisitive and eager to learn new things, excited by the generation of new knowledge and how that benefits wider society, with strong attention to detail. Qualified at least to degree level, you will have a high standard of financial literacy and numeracy and good interpersonal skills. You will need to communicate effectively with staff at all levels including senior roles.

You will have a wide-ranging and varied workload, so we expect excellent prioritisation and project management skills alongside high IT proficiency. The successful candidate will be enthused about supporting research and able to inspire others with their enthusiasm.

    Directorate/Function

The Academic Services Directorate includes Research & Impact, Knowledge Exchange, Academic Registry, Quality Assurance and Enhancement and the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre. Collectively the Directorate supports academics in their research and KE activities and supports some of the University's governance and decision-making committees, maintains academic regulations, develops and implements academic policies, oversees the quality and standards of academic provision and leads the development of education practices across the University.

The Directorate is responsible for stimulating cutting edge research, impact and knowledge exchange and supporting a vibrant community of graduate research students, to increase the volume, impact and visibility of our research and business activities. We actively liaise with Faculties and researchers to support and develop research activities across all disciplines and provide related training and development opportunities. We foster interdisciplinary working to promote, advance and share knowledge with the overall aim of securing new revenue sources and contributing to regional prosperity. Our goal is to foster and sustain a vibrant research culture in which our researchers and research students can flourish.

As a directorate, we identify opportunities for innovation, see change as an opportunity, value constructive feedback and share good practice across the University.
