Researcher Development Project Officer -Talent Lab

Job Purpose

The postholder will collaborate with the Researcher Development Specialist (Research Staff) to deliver and grow an established framework of development activity for research staff. They will lead on the planning, delivery, and evaluation of key Talent Lab Research Leadership programmes for research staff, including Flourish and The Glasgow Crucible, that support the University's strategic ambition to develop research leaders who are equipped to promote a positive research culture, foster interdisciplinarity, and contribute to the implementation of the Concordat for the Career Development of Researchers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To plan, manage, deliver, and enhance Talent Lab research leadership programmes for research staff, including the established annual Flourish and Glasgow Crucible initiatives

2. To plan, deliver, evaluate, and build on successful pilots of short-form development provision for Research Staff, such as workshops, inductions, and communities, in collaboration with colleagues across the Research Culture and Researcher Development team.

3. To produce online resources or other tools in support of the framework of development provision for research staff.

4. To recruit participants (researchers and PIs) to engage with provision and programmes, support and monitor that engagement towards building cohort communities.

5. To maintain regular channels of communication with Colleges, Services, Schools, Institutes, PIs and researchers to ensure awareness of researcher development provision for Research Staff.

6. To liaise with internal and external providers and collaborators to bring in expertise and resources required for delivering programmes and initiatives.

7. To support the Researcher Development Specialist (Research Staff) and Researcher Development Manager to manage and report on budgets associated with the delivery of Talent Lab programmes.

8. To collect and analyse GDPR-compliant qualitative and quantitative data on the impact of research staff development provision, using this to inform directions for provision enhancement, and contributing to internal and external updates and reporting.

9. To be an effective team player who is cooperative, communicative and gains the trust and support of colleagues and partners through respectful collaboration and building consensus. Contribute to team meetings, planning, joint initiatives and projects, and ongoing development of the team by sharing information in a timely manner and providing transparency in decision making.

10. Ensure that the Research Services mission is shared, understood and supported through consistent collation/storage of relevant data and supporting information and the regular updating of Research Services project status documentation and portfolio web pages.

11. Proactively identify, undertake, and share opportunities for ongoing professional development, both for yourself and for colleagues the wider Research Culture and Researcher Development portfolio.

12. Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the grade level of the position and agreeing appropriate prioritisation of work with line management or other relevant stakeholders as needed.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/ Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,(Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).

A2 A thorough and up-to-date awareness of academic/research culture, including policies and funding practices that affect researchers, and a robust understanding of how this intersects with researcher development within the Higher Education landscape.

A3 Working knowledge of leadership thinking and practice and how this relates to the research setting.

A4 Familiarity with theories on adult learning, including using technology to facilitate learning environments.

Desirable:

B1 PhD.

B2 Qualification or professional accreditation in learning and/or development in Higher Education.

B3 Working knowledge of University of Glasgow structures, policies, IT systems, practices and procedures that relate to support for researchers.

Skills

Essential:

C1 Highly effective communication skills (written, visual and oral) suitable for a variety of audiences.

C2 Excellent IT and relevant software skills and the ability to use them effectively in support of work activities. Confident working in an environment with complex systems, and ability to master new software through self-directed learning.

C3 Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective relationships with staff and services both inside and outside the University, to support development of initiatives to support researchers.

C4 The organisational, planning and administrative ability to handle a range of projects and activities simultaneously, timeously, and effectively, which have multiple conflicting deadlines and involve coordination across organisational units.

C5 Ability to deal professionally, sensitively and tactfully with staff and data, working in an ethical and legal manner in accordance with all relevant legislation (including GDPR).

C6 Ability to design and deliver high-quality, creative, pedagogically-robust, and engaging learning opportunities to support the leadership and career development of researchers.

C7 Ability to work collaboratively and responsibly as a member of various teams.

C8 Ability to undertake comprehensive evaluation of projects and present evidence for strategic decision making.

C9 Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

C10 Influencing skills when working with others to implement service improvements.

Desirable:

D1 Web-editing and use of social media (in a professional context) or other visual communication methods (e.g. blogs, infographics, video or animation).

D2 Survey design and analysis.

D3 Design and development of online learning.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Experience of designing and managing large-scale events and/or longitudinal programmes.

E2 Experience of facilitating learning spaces which develop professional skills in the Higher Education sector.

E3 Experience of using current literature and strategic and policy drivers to inform practice.

E4 Experience of the design and delivery of communication strategies to increase awareness of initiatives, events, or developments.

E5 Experience of working in multi-stakeholder teams to deliver projects.

E6 Experience of managing data and producing reports (e.g. to funders and management).

Desirable:

F1 Experience of supporting professional development planning across a wide range of disciplines.

F2 Experience of developing online learning resources.

F3 Experience of self-directed learning of new software or methods to deliver a project.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum pro rata.

This post is part time (17.5 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 18 months from start date
