At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical neuroscience, Health and rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology as well as Psychiatry and neurochemistry.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology invites applications for a researcher position at the Department of Clinical neuroscience.
DutiesThe researcher will be responsible for a research project focused on identifying the mechanisms underlying recovery of function after brain injury and developing new treatments for stroke and other brain injuries. Comprehensive analysis of brain tissue studies at the cellular and molecular level and analysis of motor and cognitive functions will be performed in these studies, in particular using in vivo models of stroke, immunohistochemistry, cell culture of brain cells and other relevant in vitro models.
Supervision of undergraduate and PhD students, communication of research results as well as some responsibility for coordinating the daily work of the research laboratory are also part of the duties.
QualificationsTo qualify as a researcher the applicant should hold a PhD degree in Medicine. Qualified candidates should have a strong background in neuroscience and at least 5 years of postdoctoral training or equivalent. The successful candidate will have well-documented experience with experimental in vivo models of ischemic brain injury, advanced microscopy and image analysis, practical laboratory work as well as extensive experience with advanced statistical data analysis. Well-developed IT skills and experience in supervising undergraduate and graduate students would be an advantage.
The applicants should be autonomous in their work, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and enjoy working in a research organization. We value that you are meticulous, have good administrative and strategic skills and have a very good command of the English language, both orally and in writing. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
EmploymentThe employment is limited (temporary) for 11 months, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
