Subjec areaThe subject of the position is in forest landscape biogeochemistry with a focus on the effects of forest management on biological diversity in wet forested environments.
DutiesThe holder is expected to develop knowledge as a basis for how biodiversity in forested peatlands and riparian areas can be protected in the managed forest landscape. This includes how endangered species and particularly sensitive biotopes in these water-rich environments can be identified and taken into account.
The research focuses on increasing understanding of general, structural and species-specific functions of forested peatlands and riparian zones along watercourses in the boreal forest ecosystem, and on developing better knowledge of how these water-rich environments are best protected in areas used for forest management.
Furthermore, the research includes the development of methods for taking these biotopes into account in forest management, for nature conservation and the restoration of good habitat for different species over varying temporal and spatial scales.
