Are you a senior fundraiser with extensive experience of philanthropy and mid- level giving, looking for a role where you can inspire, influence and motivate prospective donors and mentor junior colleagues.

Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a talented Senior Philanthropy Manager to work collaboratively to help grow a function currently raising approximately £2m a year.

As Birkbeck's Senior Philanthropy Manager, you will:

  • be responsible for instigating, developing and growing authentic and meaningful relationships with some of Birkbeck's largest prospects and donors alongside driving the mid-level giving programme.
  • manage a portfolio of around 75-100 high net worth donors and prospects and strategically build multi-year relationships that culminate in transformational gifts, typically in the range of £50k-£1m.
  • be responsible for establishing and growing a mid-level giving programme, working closely with the wider Development and Alumni team including the Regular Giving officer, Philanthropy Leads and Philanthropy Officers to develop a more formal pipeline of supporters and gifts.
  • directly line manage two Philanthropy Officers and support them to maximise their portfolios and achieve income targets.
  • To succeed as Senior Philanthropy Manager, you will:

  • Have significant experience in major gift fundraising, ideally in higher education
  • Demonstrate success in securing five, six, and seven-figure gifts
  • Possess a deep understanding of philanthropy's impact in higher education
  • Be skilled in writing persuasive fundraising proposals and presentations
  • Exhibit collaborative and supportive team behaviour.
  • If you have experience as a Major Gifts Officer, Fundraising Manager, Development Manager, Philanthropy Officer, or Donor Relations Manager, this role could be a perfect fit for you.

    Contract :

    Open-ended, permanent contract. This is a full-time role (35 hours a week), hybrid working with at least two days a week in the office. Closing date is 20 October 2024. Interview date is 30 October 2024.

    Salary and benefits:

    £49,745 rising to £58,554 per annum Grade 8 of the College's London Pay Scale.
