The Department seeks to appoint a Senior Research Associate in Dynamical Modelling of Spoken Language to work full-time for 10 months. The postdoctoral researcher will work with Principal Investigator Dr Sam Kirkham on a UKRI- funded project on the dynamics of speech production. The position is available from 1 November 2024, but a flexible start date is possible until 1 December 2024.
You will have a PhD in Linguistics, Psychology, Physics, or a related area (or, if the PhD has not yet been awarded, it must have been submitted by 1 October 2024). You should have a track-record of conference presentations and publications commensurate with your career stage. You should have experience in applied dynamical systems (e.g. biological systems, social systems, neuroscience, synergetics, speech dynamics), plus experience in at least one of the following two areas:
You will conduct research on dynamical models of the neural processes behind speech production and sound change, using experimental data and computational models. You will also assist in the development of software for data analysis and modelling, as well as preparing documentation for public release of software.
