Senior Technical Assistant / Laboratory Assistant in the Centre for Comparative Medicine Research (Ref.: 528898) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis or one-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal)
The Centre for Comparative Medicine Research is a rapidly expanding, AAALAC International accredited, academic research-support centre of the LKS Faculty of Medicine at HKU. We are committed to the provision of high-quality laboratory animals, well-equipped animal holding facilities, and professional services to support the leading role of HKU in research and teaching.
Applicants should possess 5 passes in HKCEE, including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007), Chinese (Level 2 from 2007) and Mathematics OR min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics, or combination of specialized training, education and experience. Applicants should have at least 3 years' relevant experience working in a laboratory animal vivarium. Experience in at least one of the following is a must: animal husbandry and care, animal breeding and colony management, operation and maintenance of equipment for sanitation and sterilisation (e.g. autoclave, rack washer, etc.), or inventory/record keeping and driving experience is an advantage.
Applicants will assist in carrying out the daily operations of the facility, animal preparation for procedures/ surgery, setting up training sessions for researchers, animal colony management and animal health check. Shifts duty on Sundays and public holidays are required.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on a fixed-term basis will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
