About the Department of Simulation Learning CentreThe Health Simulation Learning Centre (HSLC) is a simulation learning environment that promotes transformative learning of the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for professional health care practice. Those practicing in the HSLC are expected to treat the areas as they would a real patient care setting, maintaining respect for simulated patients, other learners and the environment in which they are immersed.
The HSLC consists of several Clinical Teaching Environments and Simulation Suites (which includes control and debriefing rooms for four simulation rooms). The Center supports educational curricula in the four programs in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and the various programs in the other departments in the Faculty. Providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students, who access the Centre for a number of courses in their programs, the Centre also supports faculty involved in creating and supporting learning opportunities for students.
About the RoleThe simulation technician is part of the core team of the HSLC where the center supports programs within SoNM. The role supports the Clinical Teaching Environment (CTE) and operations in Simulated Clinical Experiences (SCE). This is a Limited Term position working 35 hours per week and ending on June 30, 2025.
ResponsibilitiesRe-set CTE between SCE, including Simulation Suites, mannequins, props, and equipment
Set-up debrief rooms, including seating, nametags, forms; ensure computers, TVs and all audio visual equipment is running prior to each SCE
Assist with operation of mannequin and audio visual equipment as required
Maintain congruence with simulation standards, program specific philosophy and pedagogy
Promote the maintenance of fidelity in the simulated environment
Foster enthusiasm and support for simulation as a learning modality
Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviors
Promote and participate in open communication, self-analysis and reflection
Establish and engage in methods for obtaining and providing meaningful feedback to peers in order to maintain competency and currency
Operate audio visual computer program, including adjusting camera angle for optimal viewing, starting and stopping audio/videotaping sessions, and bookmarking relevant segments of the recordings
Extend the role of the patient into the simulation session as required by the SCE
Two-year post secondary certificate/program completion
Previous experience working in a healthcare setting preferred
CHSOS and/or other simulation technician certification preferred
Knowledge and experience in simulation methodology, technology, software, and equipment preferred
Good physical health with the ability to move tables, carts and other simulation equipments
Must be capable of lifting up to 22 kg (50 lbs.)
Attention to detail is crucial in following set-up and take down for lab courses
Ability to be flexible
Must be able to work with anatomical models and rooms where cadavers and/or animal tissues are displayed on a daily basis
Must exercise tact, discretion, flexibility, respect and confidentiality in all matters
Excellent communication skills required to interact with other team members, researchers and facility users
Must be fluent in written and spoken English
Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook an asset

Salary: $51,745 - $65,500 per annum.
