  • The Student Advocate, reports to the Manager, Student Advocacy and plays a vital role in supporting students across all campuses by providing timely, independent, accurate and expert advice. Demonstrating high levels of integrity, discretion, and commitment to acting in the best interest of the students, the Student Advocate ensures impartial advocacy while navigating the complexities and sensitivities of often conflicting priorities between students and University stakeholders. The role involves independently managing and resolving complex student cases, identifying achievable outcomes and promoting self-advocacy ensuring students receive the support and access to services they need to succeed.

    Essential Criteria:

  • A degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience in a tertiary education environment with specialist expertise in advocacy in community organisations
  • Demonstrated advocacy, negotiation, dispute resolution, and conflict resolution skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of the university environment, including processes, mechanisms, and governance structures
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and equity issues affecting students in the tertiary education sector
  • Ability to comply with all university policies, procedures, and legislative or regulatory obligations
  • Essential Compliance Requirements

    To hold this La Trobe University position the occupant must:

  • hold, or be willing to undertake and pass, a Victorian Working With Children Check; AND

  • take personal accountability to comply with all University policies, procedures and legislative or regulatory obligations; including but not limited to TEQSA and the Higher Education Threshold Standards.
