    Full time - Fixed term: 10 months maternity cover, or until the return of the post holder whichever is sooner.

    The Student Support's main purpose is to ensure high-quality service and support to all students at the University of Northampton, providing case-style support and advice to any students with personal or health circumstances that are affecting their studies. By giving students the opportunity to discuss their concerns in a confidential and one on one setting and then coordinating with other areas within Student Services, the Student Support Officers are able to provide support, ensure students are referred onwards, and signposted to helpful advice to ensure they are successful in their studies.

    The post works with other teams within Student Support and Advice, including the Student Outreach and Engagement Team, and Academic Advisers to identify students in need of support, and contribute accurately and efficiently to data regarding the support delivered to students.

    The post will work closely with the Team Leader - Student Support and other senior members of the Student Support and Advice Team to feed into strategic and operational conversations and take ownership of process improvements and ongoing projects.

    The post will work closely with other staff across Student Services, including the Welfare and Safeguarding Advisers, to ensure serious concerns regarding student welfare are escalated in a timely and appropriate manner.

    We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. There will be a requirement to attend Campus two days per week. However, subject to this with Smarter Working you can work with increased flexibility, if you would like to, which can facilitate greater freedom and autonomy.

    About you

    You will have experience with supporting students within an Education environments, using high quality communication and empathy skills to resolve challenging situations with students and staff.

    You will have experience with working within policies and processes, and have accuracy with data input and an understanding of data protection legislation.

    You will have experience with working closely with other team members as well as other teams, and be willing to take on technological and organisation changes.

    You will have a good understanding of the importance of resilience when working within a busy environment, and when working with students in difficult circumstances.

    Qualifications

    Essential:

  • Education to A level/NVQ level 3 with GCSE English Language and Maths at Grade C or the equivalent
  • Department

    Library, Learning and Student Services (LLSS) consists of the University Library & Archives Learning Technology, Learning and Teaching Enhancement, and Student Services. The University Library provides adaptable and IT rich learning environments, with access to print and online resources, alongside expert support in finding information. Learning and Teaching Enhancement provides flexible opportunities for students to develop a broad range of academic skills, while Learning Technology manage NILE, the University's virtual learning environment, and support the use of technology in learning and teaching. Student Services include disability support, counselling and mental health, student advice and welfare, international student support, the Student Information Desk and financial guidance.
