About us
At the Gulbali Institute, we are proud to be gifted our name Gulbali
ngurambang which translates “ to understand country ” from the Wiradjuri
First Nations as the guiding principle of how we do our work to create
impactful integrated agriculture, water and environment research, grounded in
Charles Sturt's footprint across the Murray-Darling Basin, but with impact
across Australia and globally.
Based at the heart of the food bowl of Australia, the Institute works in close
collaboration with two commercial farms, one of the largest digital farms in
the Southern Hemisphere, a commercial winery and vineyard of the future and a
huge range of world class technical and industry standard facilities –
clinics, glasshouses, labs and studios – spanning more than 2500 hectares.
The Gulbali Institute will emphasis return on investment to increase
productivity for farmer, improve natural environments and reduce risk in
agricultural and environmental management
We are a university of the land and people of our regions. True to the
character of regional Australia we have gumption, we have soul and we
collaborate with others. We develop holistic, far-sighted people who help
their communities grow and flourish.
The Wiradjuri phrase yindyamarra winhanganha means the wisdom of
respectfully knowing how to live well in a world worth living in. This phrase
represents who we are at Charles Sturt University – our ethos. It comes from
traditional Indigenous Australian knowledge, but it also speaks to the mission
of universities – to develop and spread wisdom to make the world a better
place.
Charles Sturt University is an equal opportunity employer committed to
diversity and inclusion. This is demonstrated through our Athena SWAN Bronze
Institutional Award and our participation as a member in the Australian
Workplace Equality Index. Applications are encouraged from Indigenous
Australians; people with a disability; women (particularly for senior and
non-traditional roles); people who identify as LGBTIQA+; and those from
culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
