Job Purpose
To manage and deliver an in depth, high quality technical and training service in a world class academic cleanroom, including providing specialist technical expertise in nanofabrication and being responsible for identifying equipment or specification failures. The focus will be on the operations and training of nanofabrication tools as directed by line manager, Director of Operations or the Research Engineer. Mentor junior staff members and act as a source of technical expertise to the wider community.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide highly specialised technical knowledge, solutions, and advice to all cleanroom users to maximise their learning experience and/or contribute to the delivery of research objectives.
2. Supervise and provide advanced training and support to service users using complex technical resources and/or implementing specialist techniques.
3. Be responsible for and implement best practice operating, processing and maintenance techniques with the ability to report back findings.
4. Contribute to the acquisition and set up, of equipment/systems and the design of analysis strategies. As necessary, carry out complex data analysis of a range of data, supporting service users to do the same, and identifying trends, problems and anomalies. Present findings accurately. This may include research and/or pareto analysis data.
5. Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide expert technical guidance to suggest, implement and evaluate improvements to Standard Operating Protocols. Diagnose and rectify faults/problems with specialised equipment, working to safe, professional standards.
6. Monitor standards and technical developments in the relevant discipline/specialism and continue to expand knowledge and skills base through appropriate and tailored CPD.
7. Where relevant, responsible for a range of administration duties. This may include recording any services, break downs, faults and data recording.
8. Be responsible for the day-to- day management of and compliance with relevant Health and Safety and/or other specialist legal requirements. Maintain all necessary records in accordance with set requirements. Where relevant, keep up to date with developments or legal changes relevant to the work of the cleanroom and advise and train users as appropriate. Report any potential issues to your line manager/the Director of Operations, Safety Committee and/or relevant internal or external bodies timeously.
9. To attend, present and contribute specialist technical input to meetings as required with the aim of improving service users' experience.
10. Work collaboratively with others, including within the wider College/School and where relevant with external contacts, to enhance the delivery of the research aims and support the broader strategic aims of the University. Essential
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4) or equivalent, (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Detailed knowledge of diagnosing faults/errors and effecting repairs/solutions.
A3 Detailed knowledge of all aspects of laboratory safety, COSHH and Risk Assessments.
A4 Up to date knowledge of relevant legislative requirements applicable to the role, including but not limited to Health and Safety.

B1 IOSH accreditation.

C1 Demonstrable specialist technical skills aligned to nanofabrication/cleanroom or similar environment, including skills in specialist equipment/systems/techniques. Significant breadth or depth of technical knowledge and recognised as an expert in the relevant discipline.
C2 Significant IT skills, including proficient user of relevant specialist or bespoke software packages.
C3 Significant analytical and problem-solving capability, including high degree of accuracy and attention to detail when dealing with complex data.
C4 Excellent teamworking skills and where relevant to the post, supervisory or line management skills.
C5 Proven interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to understand, conceptualise and interpret technical requirements of a range of service users with varying degrees of ability and adapt own style to meet the needs of others.

E3 Experience of establishing and managing Standing Operating Procedures and relevant Health and Safety policies and procedures.
E4 Proven experience of managing competing demands in a fast-paced technical service environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,232 - £36,924 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
