Job Purpose

The Transformation Business Partner is a strategically focused senior change professional responsible for the successful implementation of the University's transformation programs within their assigned College. Collaborating with senior leaders and directly engaging with staff across all levels in their assigned Schools and College, the Transformation Business Partner will ensure the integration of successful and enduring change. Employing a matrix management approach by directly supporting and influencing change, they will collaborate with academic and professional services leaders to ensure that our staff and students adopt change well. This role will build change capabilities across the College and facilitate change at the highest levels of leadership while integrating change expertise across all Schools. Understanding the strategic landscape, local College and School needs, and the University's complexity is crucial for enabling successful change implementation.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1. Work in partnership with the College Change Teams(s), directly implementing the Transformation portfolio of change. Acting in a leading capacity to build capability in change across all Schools within the College and ensuring an effective interface between all Schools and College staff and the Transformation Team.

2. Establish and chair the College Business Change Steering Group, creating standard process to govern and prioritise change.

3. Collaborate closely with the College Management Group via the Business Change Steering Group to ensure that all transformative change initiatives are firmly aligned with broader College/School strategic objectives, fostering a unified approach to achieving the outcomes of the Change Portfolio, considers both Transformation and local change initiatives.

4. Provide matrix line management for College Transformation Administrator resources (or relevant College SMEs) to develop high-performance capability to enable and prepare for effective implementation of the transformational change programmes in the College.

5. Provide matrix line management and development support to local change resources, aligning roles, responsibilities, and ways of working to manage One Change Plan for the College.

6. Work in partnership with leaders within their College and central service teams, to ensure that there is a pro-active talent development pipeline for programmes and colleagues currently working on projects, while providing hands-on coaching for all change resources within the College, fully supported by the People & Organisational Development Partners.

7. Acts as the primary escalation point for all School and College issues across the portfolio of change, ensuring that risks and issues for the College are pro-actively managed across all projects.

8. Core component of the community of Transformation Business Partners who will act as ambassadors of change across the institution. This community of practice will ensure consistency in approach where possible and provide the opportunity to learn from each other's best practice, working together to identify opportunities for improvement across Schools and Colleges.

9. Operate as a key member of the Transformation delivery community, retaining full oversight of the transformation integrated implementation plan and as the College representative, validating the plans by securing resources and actively engaging and providing change capability building and enablement to ensure entire College readiness for change.

10. Lead the readiness of the College to implement transformational change encompassing planning, engagement, and effective communications through to delivery related transformation programme activities/resources as required. For example, they will be responsible for representing the College in ‘go or no go' decisions and will manage escalations through to completion where there are conflicting priorities or significant risks impacting deliveries.

11. Accountable for ensuring the successful implementation of transformational change achieves the intended outcomes and can demonstrate the change has embedded to realise the expected benefits.

12. Act as the primary escalation point and liaison point between College and Transformation team to ensure that all communication and engagement plans for transformational change are reflective of the appropriate forums and channels to keep relevant stakeholders. updated. They will also be responsible for leading key change and engagement activities e.g. roadshows, CMG updates, All Hands calls).

13. Apply an ability to identify, manage and influence relevant stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of transformational change within the College. Providing hands-on support, advice, and guidance in navigating complex change with solutions, tools, and approaches to enable implementation.

14. Foster a culture of change readiness and resilience throughout the College and share knowledge and insights with colleagues and stakeholders to build change capability.

15. Network effectively across the College and wider University, strengthening communication channels across the College transformation business partnering team and the wider Transformation community.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a management role(s); OR Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles.

A2 Highly developed knowledge and understanding of change and/or change management theory and practice as well as considerable evidence of effective and sustained change delivery.

A3 Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of transformative change and improvement projects in large, complex environments.

A4 Strong understanding of Higher Education organisations, purpose, and infrastructure.

Desirable:

B1 Relevant Technical/Professional Improvement or Change Qualifications (e.g. Lean/Sigma/Operational Excellence/Change/ or Transformation Accreditation).

B2 Recognised Certifications in either Coaching (ICF), Facilitation (IAF) or Organisation Development.

B3 Recognised certifications in project management disciplines (Agile, Waterfall).

Experience

Essential:

E1 Significant experience at a senior level in Higher Education with a demonstrable track record in leading and delivering transformational change to a clear and successful conclusion.

E2 Experience of working proactively in partnership with senior leaders and managers at a senior level to deliver transformational change in large complex organisations.

E3 Experience of advising senior leaders on complex business change, risks, issues, and priorities

E4 Experience of building capability of others on change management practice at multiple levels.

E5 Considerable experience in successfully utilising multiple improvement or design methodologies in a variety of settings.

E6 Considerable experience of task managing a diverse pool of resources from within a matrix organisation.

E7 Experience of overseeing the management and successful delivery of complex business change programmes or projects

E8 Broad experience using Lean/other methodology in the delivery of significant benefits to the business through process improvement/change management programmes.

Desirable:

F1 Academic background.

F2 Experience of large-scale effective programme communications.
