The Oxford Internet Institute – founded in 2001 - is a multidisciplinary research and teaching department of the University of Oxford, dedicated to the social science of the Internet.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Variable Hours Research Assistant to join Professor Helen Margetts at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. This is to provide support for the project: Information exchange between governments and citizens in a digital society. This project is funded by the Dieter Schwartz Foundation.

This project seeks to understand how citizens listen and speak to public institutions, and how alternative AI-based models and framing might encourage democratic communication.

This is a fixed-term, variable hours role for a maximum of 15 hours per week, available immediately for a duration of 7 months with a possibility of extension.

The role is based in Oxford, but you may agree to a pattern of UK only hybrid working with your line manager.

You will:

• Conduct a review of literature and survey evidence regarding citizens' willingness to share information with governments in democratic systems.

• Assist with the preparation of a CUREC ethics application

• Develop questionnaire items for use in a new survey experiment about mental health identity

• Contribute to the design of participant survey on Qualtrics

• Prepare study for data collection on Prolific

• Prepare materials for registration on OSF

• Assist in writing up results

• Prepare and deposit replication data

• Work as part of a group that includes the PI's collaborators, including the KCL Professor Peter John and members of the PI's public policy team at the Alan Turing Institute.

You will have or be close to completion of a postgraduate degree, have excellent communication skills, be able to write publishable text, present data at conferences, and represent the research group at meetings.
