Video Archivist and Post Production Specialist

We are currently seeking a Video Archivist and Post Production Specialist
to join the USC Digital Repository within the USC Libraries. The Video
Archivist and Post Production Specialist will be responsible for the
digitization, preservation, and quality assurance of new and existing
collections archived within the Digital Repository. The position would
inspect, process, and restore/repair audio visual materials and operate the
equipment and software required to handle the materials. The Video Archivist
and Post Production Specialist would supervise student staff that operate all
of the systems. In addition, the Video Archivist and Post Production
Specialist will administer educational, instructional and/or reference
materials to researchers and clients utilizing Digital Repository services.
The successful candidate should have video post-production experience;
knowledge of video, film, and audio digitization and digital file formats; and
experience utilizing digital technologies for digital preservation and access.
This is fixed term position with an anticipated end date of July 31, 2026.

Qualifications:
Required:
2 years of experience handling motion picture film and video/audio tape
2-3 years of experience with non-linear video editing software
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
Knowledge of motion picture film handling and archival best practices
Experience with video quality assurance
Bachelor's Degree in Film/Television; Production; Media and Communication; or related field
Preferred:
Command-line interface experience
Knowledge of asset management systems
Experience with digital audio/video post-processing and restoration
Certificate in Library Science; Archival Studies; Museum Studies; Film Preservation; or related field
Experience with Lipsner-Smith film cleaners, Lasergraphics (or similar) film scanners, DaVinci Resolve, and open-source audiovisual preservation tools
Job Accountabilities:
Oversees the collection, management and transfer area that consists of
racks of broadcast video equipment, a content management system and staff
that operate all of the systems. Administers educational, instructional
and/or reference materials collection(s). Ensures the integrity of tapes
in the archive. Oversees preservation projects concerning tapes in the
archive. Provides services for patrons.
Provides leadership, guidance and direction to staff and/or student
workers within unit, as assigned. Schedules and assigns work and sets
priorities. Demonstrates techniques, equipment or procedures to others.
Trains employees as needed.
Oversees the design and development of information systems. Defines the
needs and oversees the development and/or modification and integration of
software and/or software tools for the collection. Troubleshoots a system
that is down. Ensures compliance with department and university policies.
Defines equipment needs. Selects special collection items or equipment for
purchase
Oversees the fulfillment of access requests and responds to requests for
information concerning the collection. Determines how to handle
problematic requests and/or the cost for a particular access request.
Inventories collection; reconciles and organizes data and reports
concerning the location and condition of the collection. Uses accepted
methods of protecting and preserving delicate documents, and video and
digital materials
Modifies and implements operational procedures for the collection.
Interprets policies and procedures
Gathers facts and figures to develop a budget. Provides projections as
appropriate.
Receives, inventories, catalogs and shelves or stores all new acquisitions
according to professional standards.
Stays informed of new developments and technologies.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves
