The Pitt Rivers Museum is a welcoming museum for all and we are seeking an exceptional Visitor Experience Manager to join our Visitor Service Team with relevant skills and experience to meet the high standards for one Oxford's most loved Museum's. As Visitor Experience Manager at the Pitt Rivers Museum, you will be responsible for the delivery of an engaging, effective, safe and accessible visitor experience for all as well as meet our income targets through visitor donations and small shop. This is an exciting and demanding role, with significant responsibility for the visitor operation and experience.

Leading by example and inspiring your team you will ensure that visitors get the information and guidance they need and that they and the Museum are safe and secure. You will support your team in achieving high levels of customer service satisfaction, safety and security compliance. This will involve operational decisions, sometimes rapid responses as incident controller, managing team performance and development, and contributing to visitor projects to improve departmental performance. You will also utilise experience of supporting various technical improvements to services including ticketing and booking services, visitor data analysis, online donations and visitor counting systems to continually improve visitor operations and experience.

Supporting and inspiring all front facing staff including reception, visitor experience and retail you will drive team performance and ensure procedures, income and customer excellence targets and initiatives that are being developed in the Pitt Rivers Museum and across Gardens, Libraries and Museums Divisions are implemented and that the Museum is a champion of good practice.

This is a full time role and your role will require you to act as Duty Manager covering adhoc week days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and some late night events.

To deliver this role successfully, you'll need to have:

Previous visitor operation management experience at a major cultural venue, museum or visitor attraction and passion for customer service work.

Experience of commercial activities or income generation activities in a museum setting such as retail or donation groeth.

Excellent people skills and leading and managing teams who can drive team performance as well as being able to take people with them.

Experience of drawing on audience/ visitor research to inform visitor experience services

Experience developing services to enhance visitor programme or experience

Quick and effective decision making about the daily operations and emergency situations

Excellent communication skills for different audiences

Target driven and self motivated

Knowledge of health, safety and security in managing visitor services

The post holder will be expected to work at least 2 Saturdays a month.

Recruitment within the University of Oxford will be at bottom of the scale.
