Base salary will be in the range of $89,861.38 - $96,402.32 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 6).
Assist in delivering climate information through the Queensland Future Climate Portal, featuring advanced data dashboards, time-series dashboards, and interactive communication tools.
Contribute to science and research activities, including climate modelling, data processing, analysis, and translating downscaled climate projections into relevant services for Queensland.

About This Opportunity
We invite applications for the position of Senior Officer/Web Application Developer to join the collaborative research program between the University of Queensland and the Climate Projections and Services, Climate Division of the Department of Energy and Climate Queensland Government. In this role, you will provide high-level development and support for software projects across client departments and organisations, offering technical leadership in software design, development, deployment, and maintenance. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of an industry-leading web platform (https: // www. longpaddock.qld.gov.au/qld-future-climate/) and deliver complex data and information to diverse stakeholders and audiences.
Key responsibilities will include:
Designing, implementing, deployment and maintenance of the Queensland Future Climate web resources.
Development of dashboards and other data visualization and communication tools, including interactive maps, plots and conceptual diagrams.
Assisting the development of storytelling web-based communication pieces translating climate science to broader non-technical audiences using creative and entertaining web-resources.
Undertaking research on other climate services platform and implement innovative ideas to modernise the Queensland Future Climate web resources.
Liaising with climate scientists to codesign applications aiming to communicate outcomes from complex climate datasets and analysis in a friendly manner.
Ability to manage a diverse projects portfolio with competing demands and establish priorities under short timeframes.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have a solutions-focussed attitude, excellent communication skills and experience delivering exceptional customer service.
Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in IT or related field and significant relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Skills and experience in analysis, design, development, systems management and maintenance of multi-user systems or applications.
Detailed knowledge in the following areas, with significant experience in:
Developing with NodeJS inf Typescript for Microservice based environments.
Database development (relational and NoSQL – e.g., DynamoDB, Postgres, MySQL, Oracle)
Frontend JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue, Ember)
Cloud based development e.g., AWS or Azure
Experience in development of dashboards for data visualization, including interactive maps and plots using JavaScript, leaflet, R Shiny or other technologies alike.
Proven high-level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated skills in developing a range of communication products to facilitate the translation of scientific knowledge,
Demonstrated well-developed planning and organisational skills with an ability to set priorities and organise self to meet deadlines.
Desirable
Knowledge of Linux and Linux containers such as Docker
Experience in developing microservices
Experience with the concept of Infrastructure as Code
Experience with iOS and Android mobile development
Experience or knowledge of Microsoft Graph or other similar consolidated rest-based APIs, i.e., Google APIs.
Software development methodologies and best practices
Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
Knowledge of Agile software development methods, especially Kanban
Self-motivated and keen to learn new technologies based on UQ's technical landscape.
Ability to work under tight timelines.
Ability to work on multiple concurrent initiatives, and prioritise work based on urgency
