About the Institute for Community ProsperityThe Institute for Community Prosperity works to leverage community knowledge and scholarly insights for education and knowledge mobilization, inspiring transformational change in our communities. We are interested in big questions about how society invests in social purpose or the common good in the 21st century, including the shifting roles of civil society organizations such as charities, social enterprises and non-profits. All of our work is grounded in applying systems thinking approaches to advance social innovation.
Social innovation involves doing things differently to achieve substantially better social, economic, or environmental outcomes. A new opportunity has emerged at the Institute for Community Prosperity to demonstrate an “outcomes procurement” model in partnership with the Government of Alberta in lieu of traditional grant based funding for social benefit. This innovation in resource allocation has significant future potential for the social sector. The outcomes procurement contract will be paid based on ‘months off Income Support' for a cohort of 40 refugees currently in receipt of Income Support. To accomplish this, the Institute for Community Prosperity will partner with refugee-supporting agencies to provide customized, wrap-around support to ensure refugees currently on Income Support will be employed and develop a long-term attachment to the labour market.
About the RoleThe Workforce Integration Coordinator is responsible for developing relationships and facilitating partnerships between participating refugees currently on Income Support. The position also develops partnerships with refugee-serving and employment-development organizations with pathways and resources to secure long term employment. This role provides a unique, hands- on opportunity to apply problem-solving skills to ensure a cohort of 40 refugees have the tools they need to remain gainfully employed for a minimum of 24 months. Strong inter-cultural and interpersonal skills and an understanding of the unique needs of refugees and their families will be essential. Experience in the social enterprise and/or nonprofit sectors would also be an asset.
This position is a full-time, limited term, conditionally funded role working 35 hours per week ending January 31, 2027. There is a possibility for this position to be renewed based on the success of this model.
