Dorottya Párdányi completed a master’s degree project in collaboration with the Danish design firm, HAY. The chair she designed, able to be flat-packed without losing its elegance, has earned a 2021 SIT Furniture Design Award.
Dorottya Párdányi completed her master’s degree in Design & Innovation Engineering at DTU. Her master’s project, conducted in collaboration with the Danish design firm HAY and supervised by DTU Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Michael Deininger, focused on designing high-end, durable and sustainable furniture that can be flat-packaged to optimize transportation costs and reduce emissions.
The aim of the TWIST armchair was to design a superb quality knockdown chair that can be flat-packaged to reduce its carbon footprint while offering a stylish, upmarket look and feel once assembled. The chair’s design evokes a classical armchair form with a contemporary twist, and achieves a high-quality, finished look by not exposing any joints or fasteners.
Chair assembly is highly intuitive and can be done without any tools in a matter of minutes. Sturdy joints make it possible to disassemble the chair with ease for transport or to replace parts, thereby prolonging its lifespan. The ease of assembly and disassembly does not affect the aesthetics or quality of the finished product.
Dorottya Párdányi hopes to exhibit her chair at the Milan Furniture Fair, Salone del Mobile.Milano in September 2022.
