Selected candidates for the position will be asked to first participate in a phone or zoom interview. Candidates selected from this interview will then be invited to campus. This visit will include a teaching demonstration by the candidate. 

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has seven full-time faculty. Five Mathematics faculty teach General Education courses and service courses to the University. Two Computer Science faculty teach approximately 85 undergraduate students pursing degree options in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics.

Job Summary
Job Summary The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Concord University invites applications for adjunct faculty in Computer Science.

We are building a pool of instructors to teach onan as-needed basis. We welcome applications from experienced educators and working professionals alike.
The department offers four computing degree programs: Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics. Adjuncts may teach courses across these programs. Our greatest needs are typically in foundational courses such as introductory programming, data structures, networking, and database systems.

We also welcome candidates with strengths in data analytics, cybersecurity, or web and mobile application development.
Courses may be offered in person on our main campus in Athens, WV, and/or online, depending on departmental needs. Online courses are a mix of synchronous and asynchronous delivery, and candidates who live outside the region are welcome to apply for online sections.

Classes are small, typically 15–20 students, and teaching here is hands-on and student-focused. Successful candidates will be committed to high-quality undergraduate instruction and to helping students build a strong foundation in computing.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility To perform this job successfully, an individual must:
  • Design and facilitate learning experiences that enable student success and achieve student learning outcomes.
  • Develop expectations and assess student learning outcomes.
  • Assess student learning through assignments, tests, and other evaluations, grading fairly and consistently, and providing timely feedback to support student progress.
  • Maintain regular office hours to provide academic support, assist with course-related questions, and contribute to student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.

Education/Knowledge
Minimum Education Master's
Required Licenses/Certification Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
College-level teaching experience is preferred, and relevant industry experience will also be considered.
Required Skills
  • Strong teaching and communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly to a wide range of learners
  • Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment
  • Skilled in developing instructional materials and using effective teaching strategies
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and basic instructional technology
  • Strong organizational abilities, including timely grading, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to academic policies
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students ·
  • Commitment to Concord University’s mission and a strong commitment to, and understanding of, the role of CS education.
