Columbia College Chicago is a private urban institution of approximately 4,500 undergraduate and graduate students, four-year College offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business is currently searching for a ENGINEER LOCAL399.
Under the direction of Chief/Assistant Chief Engineer, the Operating Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning systems), plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and maintenance. Work involves judgment, interpretation to identify and apply appropriate procedures to accomplish tasks. The operating engineer must be able to troubleshoot and maintain building control systems and can perform instrument testing. Contact vendors and manufacturers to obtain materials for repairs and installations. Moving and lifting objects are required on a regular basis. Power tools are utilized to carry out duties.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Repair and maintain heating and cooling equipment, steam and hot water boilers, air handling systems, cooling tower/chillers and all related equipment associated with these systems.
Operate and troubleshoot all life safety systems including but not limited to fire alarm, sprinkler, generators, transfer switches, pre- action/deluge, and emergency systems.
Perform all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing MEP repairs and installations.
Respond to emergency notifications from the Chief/Assistant Chief Engineer. This includes but not limited to call backs, night calls, weekend calls where you will be needed to come back to work.
Review and update work order tickets on 360 FAMIS work order system.
Perform building rounds for general building safety and code compliance.
May be required to participate in an on call rotation and respond to operational or facilities-related needs outside of regular working hours, as needed, including evenings, weekend and holidays.
Perform preventive maintenance on all related equipment.
Perform minor carpentry work such as wall repairs, ceiling tile replacement, painting, etc.
Operate and maintain freight elevators.
Assist Support Services and Maintenance Technicians within the allowable terms permitted under L399 Agreement.
Perform grounds keeping including but not limited to snow removal and lawn care.
Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities, as assigned or required.
High School diploma and two years trade school education in heating and ventilating equipment and plumbing.
Minimum 3 years' experience as an L399 Apprentice or 2 years' experience as a L399 Engineer.
Knowledge of Chicago Building Code, NFPA, ASHREA, OSHA a plus.
Certification in the following:
EPA Universal
Fire Safety Director
City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License or a comparable license
OSHA certifications a plus
LEED experience a plus.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and procedures used in servicing or performing repairs on related building equipment.
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) practices and procedures and the ability to troubleshoot and repair issues.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions of the trade
General knowledge of carpentry.
Familiarity with Honeywell Tridium and Webtrol Building Automated Systems (BAS).
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude.
Ability to interpret and work from sketches and diagrams.
Forklift training and certifications may be provided.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. minimum.

Position Hourly Rate: $51.54
The hourly rate for this position is established in accordance with the L399 union agreement and is not subject to individual negotiation.
