Post-doctoral research position (m/f/d, 100% E13 TV-L for 24 months).
The successful candidate will work on the project
The Sun as an X-ray Star.
Goal of this approach is to convert solar X-ray observations to a format that can be used to model the X-ray spectra of other stars and, hence, to investigate the solar-stellar connection for the corona. The project involves the analysis of archival solar imaging and spectroscopic X-ray data. The project will be carried out in the research group Space Based Astrophysics of Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen / Germany led by Prof. B. Stelzer where a broad range of topics related to multi-wavelength observations of the formation and evolution of low-mass stars and brown dwarfs are studied and one focus is stellar activity including the solar context.
The applicant must have a PhD or equivalent degree in physics or astrophysics. Expertise with X-ray data analysis and a background in solar physics are useful.
The position will be funded for a duration of 24 months. Salary will be according to 100% E13 of the TV-L of the German public services. The application is expected to consist of a CV (including personal data, formation, skills and expertises), copies of university degrees and a brief (1-2 page) statement of previous research experiences and motivation. The candidate should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Prof. B. Stelzer. The deadline for applications is Oct 30, 2026 with a starting date as soon as possible.
