Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Nanomedicine and Spatial Biology Lab at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Karolinska Institutet, is seeking a talented research specialist to join our team. Our research investigates the role of spatial organization in biological processes. To study this, we develop

DNA nanotechnology-based tools to map and manipulate membrane protein nanodomains (e.g. Spratt, Dias et al., Nature Nanotechnology, 2024; Ambrosetti et al., Nature Nanotechnology, 2021; Shaw, Lundin et al., Nature Methods, 2014).

Description of the subject area

Membrane proteins assemble into dynamic nanodomains that regulate receptor signaling and intracellular trafficking. Disruption of this spatial organization is implicated in diseases such as cancer and neurodegeneration, which makes nanodomains promising biomarkers and therapeutic targets. To realize this potential, we use DNA nanotechnology to develop methods for large-scale, high-resolution mapping of the composition and nanoscale architecture of membrane protein nanodomains in both physiological and disease states.

Your mission

As a research specialist, you will drive innovative projects at the intersection of spatial biology and nanomedicine. You will develop novel methods to analyze the spatial organization of proteins, both in cell populations and in single cells. The work includes the design and production of DNA nanostructures, cell biology experiments, advanced microscopy and large-scale data analysis.

Eligibility requirements

For employment as postdoc t at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • expertise in DNA nanotechnology
  • expertise in cell biology
  • expertise in computational biology
  • experience of in vivo studies in zebrafish and mouse models.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • expertise in the design, production and purification of DNA origami nanostructures
  • experience with methods for analyzing cellular responses, including single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and advanced microscopy.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI

What do we offer?
