Glasgow Caledonian University

The beginning of Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) dates back to the establishment of Glasgow School of Cookery in 1875 and the West End School of Cookery in 1878. In 1908, the two schools merged to create the Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Domestic Science (GWSCDS). The institution was renamed Queen's College, Glasgow in 1975. Glasgow College of Technology was established in 1971, becoming Glasgow Polytechnic in 1991. On the 1st of April 1993, the Queen's College and Glasgow Polytechnic merged to create Glasgow Caledonian University.

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is one of Scotland’s largest and most dynamic universities with around 20,000 students from 100 countries studying at its state-of-the-art campus. It also holds the membership of the Florence Network and the Talloires Network.

Situated in the Glasgow city center in Scotland, the GCU campus has world-class infrastructure and offers a plethora of amenities. Saltire Centre is a major highlight of the campus and houses the university library which gives access to more than 270,000 books, 350 open-access PCs, and a huge range of online resources including databases, ebooks, journals, and more. The Govan Mbeki Health Building is home to the GCU Vision Centre. Also, ARC Gym and GCU Clinic are prominent parts of the campus. The residential and dining facilities ensure an excellent student experience. Caledonian Court provides comfortable accommodation for over 600 students. Refectory and various cafes serve tasty and healthy food. The university has a second campus in London that houses the British School of Fashion. Also, Glasgow Caledonian New York College is a partner college situated in the SoHo district.

GCU offers numerous postgraduate and undergraduate programs in various fields of education such as nursing, midwifery, management, law, business, renewable energy, construction, education, social science, fashion, tourism, journalism, engineering, psychology, and physiotherapy. The university has collaborations with various international universities in countries like China, India, North America, South America, Oman, and Bangladesh. These collaborations facilitate excellent student exchange and study abroad programs. Around 95% of the university's graduates are either enrolled for further study or employed within six months of completing graduation.

GCU has more than 128,000 alumni from across 140 countries. These alumni include some notable names. Kevin Bridges is a popular stand-up comedian known for his television show 'Kevin Bridges: What's the Story?’ Michael Keating is an accomplished political scientist who serves as the Director of the Centre on Constitutional Change. Andy Kerr is a politician responsible for the ban on smoking in public places in Scotland. Gordon MacDonald is a member of the Scottish Parliament from the Scottish National Party (SNP). Drew McIntyre is a professional Scottish wrestler. Eunice Olumide is a well-known actress and model. Several other distinguished people have graduated from the university.
