The University of Bedfordshire is located in Luton Bedfordshire United Kingdom. This university was founded in 1882 but it achieved the position of a university in 1992 and was known as the University of Luton. This is a public university. The name the University of Bedfordshire was adopted in 2006 after the approval of the Privy Council after the merging of the University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University.
The university will give about up to 2,400 GBP cash to students of undergraduate studies. The Merit Scholarship spans worth 2,400 GBP and is paid for 3 academic years that is awarded to people with a high level of academic achievement and to those who can score 112 UCAS points or more. Even if a student does not achieve this level the university will give about 1,500 GBP over three academic years along with the bursary or 1,000 GBP over 2 academic years if the student is a top-up one receiving Level 5 bursary. There are many other qualifications for grants and bursaries like the Care Leavers Bursary that is available to the students that are ‘open to care’ and can be supported by the local authorities leaving care services.
The chancellor is John Bercow (former speaker of the House of Commons) and the vice-chancellor is Bill Rammell. There are a total of 14,000 students on the campus as of 2016-2017 out of which 10,860 are undergraduates and 3,140 are postgraduates for the same year. There are about 4,500 international students at the university. The university is sprawled across six campuses; there are 4 campuses in Bedfordshire, in Luton and Bedford, 2 campuses in Buckinghamshire, in Aylesbury (for the students of Midwifery and Nursing) and in Milton Keynes (for business studies, telecommunications and electronic engineering). The university had entered the Research Assessment Exercise in 2008 and had achieved a GPA of 2.087 with 34.7 percent internationally.
Top assessment units were Cultural and Media Studies, Communication, Social Work Social Policy and Administration along with English Language and Literature. As of 2012, the university received the status of FairTrade. There are four faculties that are the Health and Social Sciences, Creative Arts, Education and Sports, and Science and Technologies. Notable alumni include Gemma Hunt, Richard Page among others.
