University of Bradford

The University of Bradford is an open university which was founded in 1832 as an institute of mechanics. The plate-glass university received its official certification in the year 1966 and became the 40th university to be established in England. Having a history that dates back to the early 19th century, the university now maintains two campuses located at Emm Lane and on Richmond Road.

Nestled in the Bradford area of West Yorkshire, the university offers education to more than 8,000 undergraduate and over 2,900 postgraduate students of which 15% of the students are foreigners and come from more than 150 different countries. In the year 2010, the university received more than 14,400 applications through UCAS of which 3,421 were accepted.

The university provides 5 faculties which were called schools at one time but changed after making their sub-units in 2014. Four out of five faculties are set at the city campus. These faculties include Engineering & Informatics, Computing, Informatics and Media, Engineering, Design and Technology, Health Studies, Life Sciences, Management, Law, and Social Science, and Social and International Studies. Moreover, in 1973, it became the first British university to set up a Department of Peace Studies, which is now the largest university center in the world.

The university operates a student union, namely the University of Bradford's Students' Union or UBU. The union offers counseling services, various clubs and organizations, and sports activities. The union rests in the Student Central building on the campus which is surrounded by shops and eating joints. Students can also buy books and stationery on the campus at the Blackwell bookstore. It also runs a radio station, namely Ramair, which is one of the country's longest-running student radio stations. Also, it maintains a student newspaper called the Bradford Student Cinema.

The university has successfully graduated a huge number of students who are now working for the development of various areas of society. Some of the known ones are Melih Abdulhayoglu (founder and CEO Comodo Group), Rinchinnyamyn Amarjargal (former PM of Mongolia), Nick Baines (bishop of Bradford, bishop of Leeds and broadcaster), Amjad Bashir (conservative Member of the European Parliament) and John Beaman (Channel Islands politician).
