About Wilfrid Laurier University

Origin of Wilfrid Laurier University can be traced back to the establishment of the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary in Waterloo in 1911. The Waterloo Lutheran University was renamed as Wilfrid Laurier University in 1973 in honour of Canada's seventh Prime Minister, Sir Wilfrid Laurier. The university's business school holds the approval of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Also, its social work programmes hold the recognition of the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE).

The university has two huge campuses in Brantford and Waterloo and two smaller campuses in Kitchener and Toronto. The Waterloo campus is the main and the biggest campus that houses the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics and the faculties in music, arts, science, graduate studies and education. The Brantford Campus is home to the faculties of human and social sciences and liberal arts. Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work is based in the Kitchener campus. Located on Exchange Tower's ground floor at King and York Streets, the Toronto campus offers a weekend MBA programme and offers a multi-functional space to host various events such as roundtables, receptions, poetry readings, workshops, seminars, etc. The university offers more than 100-degree programmes in an array of subjects such as accounts, anthropology, applied sciences, archaeology, social science, sciences, business, computer science, arts, economics, communication, journalism, law, philosophy, mathematics, political science, social work, psychology, etc.

It houses over 19,500 students and has a student-faculty ratio of 25:1. The research-intensive university has more than 20 institutes and research centres. It offers numerous outstanding student-exchange programmes and welcomes a large population of international students every year. It has collaborations with a number of international universities like the University of Botswana, the University of Ghana, Chile's Universidad de Concepción, Georgia Southern University and Istanbul Sehir University.

The university also has an excellent placement track record with 98% of the 2017 graduates employed or enrolled for higher studies. The university has over 1,00,000 alumni across the world including some notable names. Brad Katsuyama is the co-founder and CEO of the Investors Exchange (IEX). Sam Schachter played beach volleyball in the Olympics. Colleen Moorehead is an author and Osler's Chief Client Officer who has written the book 'The Collective Wisdom of High-Performing Women'. Kyle Cucco and Ashley Brook are the rising producers and creators of the documentary series 'Canadiana'. Robert Creighton is a Canadian actor and a successful Broadway artist. Avi D'Souza is the programme director and founder of Not Just Tourists (NJT). Several other distinguished and successful people are associated with the university
