The Biotechnology Graduate Program in the Graduate School at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor of Practice position in Biotechnology and Genomics to begin immediately.

About the Department/School/Area

The Center for Biotechnology & Genomics at Texas Tech University supports excellence in education and student development in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and molecular genetics. The Center provides state of the art resources and technical expertise that enhance classroom instruction, laboratory training, and hands on learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. By fostering collaboration among faculty, students, and researchers at Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, the Center serves as a hub for interdisciplinary education, student mentorship, and workforce development in the life sciences.

Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program. 

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with dynamic student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Faculty Qualifications

1.  Ph.D. in related area.

2.  Minimum of 2 years teaching experience (graduate teaching experience counts towards minimum).

3.  Demonstrated expertise in genomics, long read sequencing, single cell genomics, bioinformatics, or related fields, with evidence of scholarly or applied contributions.

4.  Experience in academic, professional, or community outreach, student mentoring, and/or service activities that support genomics education and workforce development.

5.  Experience in biotechnology, genomics, healthcare, diagnostics, pharmaceutical, or related industry settings, with familiarity in applying genomic technologies and data analysis to real world applications.

This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

• Ph.D. in plant biology, genomics, bioinformatics
• Experience with grant writing and submissions
• Experience with long read sequencing technologies
• Experience with single cell and spatial genomics
