About the area

The Directorate of Student Life and Community sits within the Education and Student Experience Portfolio, overseen by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education and Student Experience). Student Life and Community play an integral role in the shared strategic goal of providing a world-class student experience. The Directorate comprises five core divisions: the Student Conduct and Resolution Centre, Student Engagement and Belonging, Student Equity and Accessibility, Student Health and Wellbeing, and UWA Sport. The Directorate delivers an integrated suite of services and initiatives across the student lifecycle, including programs and activities that promote access and participation at UWA, foster inclusion, belonging and community connection, support safety, health and wellbeing, advance equity and accessibility, encourage positive student conduct and early resolution pathways, and enhance engagement in learning, university life, and leadership. The Directorate works in close partnership with the student Guild, student associations, affiliated residential colleges, and the broader Education and Student Experience portfolio to ensure an integrated, student-centred approach aligned with UWA’s strategic priorities and values.

The Division of Student Health and Wellbeing facilitates high-quality student experience through the provision of integrated and comprehensive services. Reporting to the Director, the Division is responsible for the strategic oversight and delivery of the UWA Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework and the UWA Safe, Respectful and Inclusive Communities Framework. Student Health and Wellbeing lead an integrated continuum of primary prevention, secondary intervention and tertiary support and recovery services enhancing student safety, health and wellbeing and contributing to academic success. The division provides trauma informed prevention and early intervention, cohort-based initiatives and timely access to low-barrier services through both the nationally accredited Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and Medical Centre. The Division leads primary prevention education and training, alongside trauma-informed clinical response and support for students impacted by gender-based violence and other harmful behaviours, fostering a safe, inclusive, respectful and supportive university environment.

About the opportunity

• Provide complex case management services to students experiencing multiple and complex issues that are impacting on their wellbeing. This will include case management for students entering into / exiting the acute mental health system, students in high-risk domestic violence situations, sexual assault or sexual harassment, student diversity, equity and inclusion matters and other high-risk matters.
• Assist the Complex Case Manager and Student Critical Incident Response team by effectively coordinating responses to student critical incidents, ensuring timely and appropriate support is provided.
• Provide comprehensive case management services for vulnerable domestic and international students including the assessment of needs, referral to and coordination of internal and external services involved in the care of the student and acting as one of the key points of contact for matters relating to that student.

About you 

• Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency.
• Current registration with an associated professional organisation, such as Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Accredited mental health social workers are encouraged to apply.
• Extensive experience providing case management and therapeutic interventions to a diverse group of students with multiple and complex needs, including assessment, crisis and short-term intervention, referral to and coordination of services. Ability to manage complex clinical problems and situations requiring immediate intervention.
• Proven ability to develop, deliver and evaluate effective programs and training that focus on student wellbeing.
