Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

TheDepartment of Global Public Health (GPH) is an interdisciplinary department that aims to advance knowledge about the challenges and opportunities for public health in local, national and global contexts.

Many researchers at the department serve as scientific advisors to public authorities and other decision-makers at regional, national and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programmes, and its researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.

We are currently seeking a researcher with a PhD and broad international clinical and academic experience in infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis, to conduct independent research and contribute to teaching and student supervision in global public health at the department.

Your mission

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will have a varied role combining teaching, project management and research support, and you will be expected to plan and organise your work independently.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Project management of ongoing and new projects: Working together with the team leader and other members of the research group (as well as across Research groups) to plan, document, implement and evaluate research and educational projects, including projects on paediatric tuberculosis in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The position involves travel both within and outside Europe.
  • Teaching: Delivering and taking responsibility for courses at undergraduate and master’s level in global health, tuberculosis and related subjects.
  • Research support: Identifying research funding opportunities; preparing or contributing to grant applications and reports to national and international funding bodies; preparing applications for ethical review; conducting data analyses; and preparing or coordinating scientific publications.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

For this position, applicants are also required to hold a medical degree and specialist qualification in infectious diseases, as the research will focus primarily on clinical tuberculosis research. Previous experience of clinical work with tuberculosis in low-, middle- and high-income countries, as well as a publication record in tuberculosis diagnostics, particularly paediatric tuberculosis diagnostics, is also required.

Excellent written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of Swedish is considered an advantage. We are looking for a curious and committed colleague who takes responsibility and initiative while also valuing close collaboration and exchange of knowledge with others. You should be able to work independently and in a structured manner, while remaining flexible and responsive when collaborating with colleagues and partners from different professional and cultural settings. We value a collaborative approach, strong communication skills and a willingness to contribute to the research group as a whole. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
