Research Assistant Ref: 44071 (Internal Only, Part Time, Fixed Term)

Grade 6 starting at £34,610 to £38,784 per annum, pro rata if part time.

As a Research Assistant you will support the work of Dr Matthew Easterbrook and the School Inclusion Group, a research team in the School of Psychology that helps schools and local authorities understand and reduce the gaps between groups of pupils in their experiences of school, their attendance, and their attainment.

The post is funded by Brighton & Hove City Council, Camden, and West Sussex County Council, and you will work across all three, and potentially more widely as well.

Day to day, you will be a point of contact between the team and the schools, teachers, local authorities, multi-academy trusts, and policymakers we work with. You will support the surveys we run in schools, the workshops we deliver, and the reports that go back to schools, including preparing and analysing the data behind them in R. You will also help develop the impact case studies that come out of this work, and keep the project website up to date.

This post is one day of 7.5 hours a week, so you will be managing your own time and working with a good deal of independence, with support from the wider team.

You will have a degree in psychology, education, sociology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of relevant experience.

This is a part-time post supporting work that is already running, so we need someone who can take it on quickly and with limited supervision. You will have worked in English schools before, directly with both teachers and students, and you will be comfortable and credible in that setting. You will be able to conduct statistical analyses in R, and to explain clearly what the numbers mean to people who are not researchers.

You will also have experience of working on impact-related projects of the kind that feed into Research Excellence Framework impact case studies. Experience of managing project websites would be an advantage.

You will need to be able to work flexibly within the school day during term time, and to start at short notice.
