    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

    This full-time, staff position reports to the Director of Undergraduate Nursing. The position requires nursing licensure; a Bachelor of Nursing degree is preferred. A minimum of two years of teaching experience in a professional nursing program, including demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in administration, is preferred. The Vocational Nursing Program Coordinator will work with the Director to coordinate curriculum, didactic and clinical courses, and facilitate clinical coordination across the continuum of undergraduate nursing programs.

    The Vocational Nursing Program Coordinator and Nursing Clinical Coordinator is responsible for administrative oversight and leadership of the Vocational Nursing program in collaboration with the Director of Undergraduate Nursing. This person collaborates with nursing leadership to manage the VN program. Active involvement is expected with nursing and other health care organizations at the state, regional, and national levels.

    Although this position is largely administrative, teaching is the University's primary mission, and this role includes at least 6 credit hours of teaching responsibilities per year. Scholarly activity, student advising, and service to the University and community are also expected.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Represents the governing entity and the Vocational Nursing program.
  • Fulfills the authorized role to coordinate the program in collaboration with the Director.
  • Implements all policies and ensures that University and Nursing policies are congruent and documents any differences due to accreditation standards.
  • Administers, manages, and evaluates the Vocational Nursing program to include curriculum, admissions, and retention.
  • Selects appropriate clinical sites and clinical schedules across the continuum of undergraduate nursing consistent with the expectations of the Texas Board of Nursing rules for clinical learning.
  • Collaborates with Program Directors and faculty to select and onboard clinical instructors consistent with the needs of each program and the expectations of the Texas Board of Nursing rules for clinical learning.
  • Develops and manages
  • Approves and implements policies for the admission, progression, probation, and dismissal of students.
  • Collaborates and assists in recruiting and marketing of students.
  • Ensures the enforcement of student policies.
  • Assigns faculty to teach content in their areas of expertise and knowledge
  • Supervises, supports, evaluates, and provides guidance to faculty.
  • Notifies the Board of Nursing Staff immediately when there is a change in the name of the program director or in contact information.
  • Responsible for the budgetary process that ensures the nursing program's success.
  • Develops and maintains an environment conducive to the teaching/learning process.
  • Serves as a liaison for the nursing program with the administration of the governing entity.
  • In collaboration with the VN Program Director, leads the faculty in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum
  • All curriculum is faculty-led, developed, implemented, and evaluated.
  • Maintains an ongoing relationship with the community and with clinical affiliating agencies.
  • Advocates for adequate faculty to teach in the program.
  • Ensures that the faculty/student ratios are maintained by accreditation standards.
  • Makes budget recommendations to the VN Program Director related to faculty development and employment needs as well as program resources.

  • A faculty teaching load of at least 6 credit hours per year is required for this position.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Contribute to team efforts to deliver a quality nursing education program by completing assigned activities as requested and in a timely manner.
  • Act to facilitate sustainable inter-professional relationships between faculty, students, University administrators and employees, and public or private organizations using professional communication techniques.

  • EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Earned Master's in
  • Current Texas Board of Nursing active Registered Nurse license.
  • Experience in population-specific nursing for two years.
  • Clinical practice in
  • Successful teaching and administrative experience in a nursing program.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and University committees and with public and private organizations both within or beyond his or her discipline.
