Hawthorn site to be sold

March 25, 2022

The site in Hawthorn. The University of Melbourne is selling a 16,200sqm site in Hawthorn, a site it has owned since 1992, but is now surplus to the University’s requirements. University of Melbourne Chief Operating Officer Allan Tait said: “The proceeds from the sale will be used to part fund the University’s capital contribution to the Australian Institute of Infectious Disease (AIID), to be built in the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct." “The University has a responsibility to manage its assets carefully and using the proceeds from a surplus asset to fund a critical project that serves the national interest is the right thing to do. “The site will be purchased by Hamton who, subject to rezoning and planning approval, will transform the site into an exemplar, carbon neutral low to medium density residential development, which will also include a component of affordable housing.”
